Polls and studies confirm what you may well know from personal experience: an increasing number of individuals believe in the efficacy of spiritual healing. It’s evident in everyday conversations, in best-selling books, in print and electronic media, in evolving religious practices, and in the rise of complementary and alternative medicine.
Christian Science is a time-tested system of spiritual healing that has been successfully practiced around the world for over a century. In 1875 Mary Baker Eddy published Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to provide a full explanation of Christian Science, or “the scientific system of divine healing.” [i]
Why did Eddy consider this prayer-based healing method “scientific”? One reason is that she was convinced it’s founded squarely on the laws of God—laws that are always in operation and that govern man and the universe. A devoted student of the Bible, she had often pondered Jesus’ promise that his followers would be able to heal like he did. Facing death after a severe accident, she found convincing proof that such healing is indeed still possible, when she experienced an immediate recovery from her injuries while reading a Biblical account of Jesus’ healing work. In that moment, she would later say, she discovered Christian Science. For the rest of her long life, she endeavored to show humanity that the same divine laws that underlay Jesus’ healings two millennia ago enable us to practice effective healing today.
In Science and Health, Eddy writes,
After a lengthy examination of my discovery and its demonstration in healing the sick, this fact became evident to me, — that Mind [God] governs the body, not partially but wholly. I submitted my metaphysical system of treating disease to the broadest practical tests. Since then this system has gradually gained ground, and has proved itself, whenever scientifically employed, to be the most effective curative agent ….[ii]
Christian Science is the most reliable method of healing I’ve found. As a practitioner, I treat individuals dealing with physical illnesses, mental difficulties, emotional issues, relationship problems, or career challenges. No problem is too big or too small for the power of prayer.
My practice includes patients of diverse faith traditions, as well as those with no formal faith tradition. Christian Science is accessible to all. It meets the needs of any honest seeker.
